Mosquito Magnet update

It works!

It has been 2 weeks since we started up our Mosquito Magnet. I emptied it twice (once last weekend and once a few minutes ago). The first time I estimated that there were 50-100 dead mosquitos in the net. The second time, I estimated that there were ~200 in there. Wow. It certainly is catching them.

I must note that as I was emptying the net, a few minutes ago, I was attacked by 3 or 4 of the buggers. So emptying the net will be a risky task, but worth it, I think. But this proves that we really need to move it somewhere else in the yard. 6 feet away from the back door just isn't a good idea.

But on the deck, there aren't any mosquitos. I sat out there a couple of times last weekend, with no mosquito bites. The battle for our yard is nearly won!

And, for a bonus, I was able to positively identify the species of mosquito around here. It is, indeed, the Asian Tiger mosquito. They are black with white stripes, but I normally couldn't tell that much because the only time they were still enough for me to look, they were smooshed...and consequently looked like a black (and sometimes red) smudge.

A mosquito magnet? Okay. Funny how a drought keeps the mosquitos away. Either I don't get out much, which is possible, or they aren't bad here in San Antonio this year. Then again, mosquitos roam where puddles of water are and since we went on Stage 1 water restrictions last week.... that tells you we haven't had much rain this year.
