Thank goodness for Big Trucks

Houston floods. The recent one happened last night and today. I actually wasn't worried too much until the speaker at an AIAA dinner meeting we went to could not make it because his car was flooded.

When we got to our neighborhood, there were a line of cars parked along the only road into our part of the subdivision. Luckily, it wasn't raining at this time, so we parked, got out and took a look. The road was flooded. It was obviously impassable by the Trans Am, so we got a ride through the water from one of our neighbors.

I must admit, our neighbors (Nick and Nina)(2 houses down) have always had this big, lifted Ford F-350 diesel truck. He's the macho, deer-hunter, oil refinery worker. But his big truck came in handy today. Apparently they had been ferrying neighbors across the water all afternoon. They actually had to go get some fuel just before giving us a ride. Those are awesome neighbors!

Once we got past the access road, there was no major flooding. Which is strange, 'cause usually the streets get a little flooded, and our backyard gets really flooded. Thank goodness, there was no water in the house, and the flooding in the backyard was not significant. Now if it will stop raining for a couple of days so our neighborhood can drain. (The weather forecast shows tomorrow during the day to be dry, but more rain on Wednesday. Go here to check the weather in our neighborhood)

Looks like we're taking the Suburban to work tomorrow. :)

Made me look up AIAA to find out where you were dining! But I am getting good at figuring out the acronyms. Love the suggestion about getting the lift for the "burban." I do have your weather on my weather page and I was a little concerned, as you already know! (don't know what auto-BR means but guess it's OK
