When it rains, it floods
Saturday morning we woke up to a thunderstorm in progress. It rained really hard for several hours. When we finally got out of bed, the backyard was more waterlogged than we've ever seen it. Luckily, none of the water came into the house. 6 hours later, the backyard was better: the leaves of grass were above the waterline.
We had a crawfish boil to go to (hosted by a coworker of Travis'), so we took the Suburban out. We are very glad we did. The entrance road to our neighborhood was badly flooded. Our estimates were that it was 2 or 2.5 feet deep at its deepest. And this was on the road! One of our neighbors was watching people try to get through, and pulling cars out that got stuck. The Suburban conquered it, though.
When we got back from the party, it was not much better. We took a walk after we made it home to get some pictures. Here they are, for your amusement.

The lake you see on the right is our drainage pond, doing its best to keep the floodwaters at bay.

This gives you a good idea of the depth. That's a Toyota FJ on the road.

A man was playing with his dog in the floodwaters. It looks like a normal sized yellow lab, and the water was up to the dog's shoulders.

Here's the street in front of our house. Not too bad, all things considered.
