Backyard improvements
Michelle’s dad visited us this weekend. We did the tour of NASA, and introduced him to Fry’s Electronics and the TV show Firefly (watched the pilot episode).
While he was here, we showed him our newest backyard projects, which we have neglected to post about on the blog. We finished the fountain a month ago, and the garden between the deck and the trellis we finished 3 weekends ago.
The fountain features a whiskey barrel, a pot from the Houston Garden Center, and an inexpensive pump from The Home Depot. Yes, we built it ourselves.
The garden features a nice pot and wall of stones from Sunland Nursery, a bunch of Mexican Heather, a plumeria, and some pretty plant with red flowers that I can’t remember the name of. Yes, we’re trying plumerias again. So far we’ve killed 2 - one from Hawaii (bought on our honeymoon) and one from my parent’s collection. Let’s hope the third time is a charm.
Enjoy the pictures!

(though after the UM/ASU game, Michelle probably wanted more than just 1 barrel!)
and I hope that if I get to see it in person you will
be able to make me a plumeria lei. Go Blue!
The hummingbird feeder does, indeed, get hummingbirds! We originally got it because our plants were attracting them, but we never saw any hummingbirds! So last weekend, we mentioned that to Dad...and not twenty minutes later, a hummingbird showed up! They don't seem to mind us at all...though when the wasps start taking an interest, the hummingbirds stay away.
