This weekend Michelle and I are participating in the Relay For Life cancer research fundraising event. I am participating with the 501st Legion Star Wars Imperial Costuming Group. In the event, the team members will take turns walking around a track from 6 pm Friday night to 8 am Saturday morning (the idea is that cancer never sleeps).

That’s right, I’ll be doing the walk in full stormtrooper armor. I won’t be the only one in costume, in fact we should have several stormtroopers, a Darth Vader, and a Boba Fett there to participate.

The other side of the event is a festival, in which every group tries to raise money using all kinds of different fun methods. We will be “arresting” people’s friends, and providing pictures of people in Star Wars costumes in exchange for a small donation.

I am doing this in memory of a good friend from college who passed away from cancer a couple of years ago.
