We went to see Wall-E this weekend. I really enjoyed it. It’s funny, has a good plot, has great characters, and it has a message. I would definitely recommend seeing this movie.

I didn’t realize until the credits started to roll how this movie and my new project are related. You will notice that the voice credit for the titular character of Wall-E is given to Ben Burtt. Do you recognize that name?

If you don’t, for shame :p . Mr. Burtt also provided the “voice” of my favorite robot: R2-D2. He’s a very talented Sound Designer. Sweet!

Okay, so this has turned out to be a little more than the cold we thought it was. I found when I made it to work this morning that I’d lost my voice. It is, unfortunately, impossible to work a console in Mission Control without a voice… After a conducting a brief search for the missing voice (with the help of the OSO I was supposed to be taking over from), I departed for the doctor’s office instead.

The doctor took one look at my throat and promptly prescribed an antibiotic, two cough medicines, and 24 hours before going back to work. Yahoo. Here’s hoping the drugs work!

We’re taking it easy this weekend. Michelle is trying to get over a cold that I gave her (accidentally, I assure you). We’ve started straightening up and cleaning the house for a visit from Michelle’s grandparents and Mom next weekend. We’re looking forward to the visit! Hopefully Michelle will be feeling better by then.

This week has been a little rough. I think of Jeff often, but luckily it has mostly been memories of the good times we had growing up. Let me tell you, it was a surreal experience being a pallbearer for my cousin. That thing was heavy! Luckily, there were 6 of us.

Before we left the cemetery, Shanda and I left a momento for Jeff. It was a Lego Stormtrooper minifigure. I had picked up a small Lego set last week, and I decided to bring it as we were getting ready the morning of the funeral. I thought Jeff would enjoy seeing a combination of two of his favorite things growing up: Star Wars and Legos. We placed it on his casket, in a bed of flowers that had already been placed there by friends and family.

Now I have one last good thing to remember Jeff by. Every time I see a Lego Stormtrooper, I will think of him. It seems appropriate.

Hope everyone has a very happy Easter (or a happy Sunday, if you’re not celebrating Easter)! And yes, the space shuttle is STILL docked to the space station…

Travis and Michelle Fitzgerald live in League City, Texas. We both work at NASA's Johnson Space Center, and enjoy all sorts of odd things. Among them are Star Wars, reading, geocaching, and various projects around the house. This blog will serve as a record, for future civilizations, of what an atypical newlywed couple does on a day-to-day basis.
